NOTIFICATION OF RELEASE OF 2005 GCE O-LEVEL EXAMINATION RESULTS/
2006 JOINT ADMISSIONS EXERCISE
Release of 2005 GCE O-Level Examination Results
1 The results of the 2005 Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level Examination will be released on Friday, 10 February 2006.
2 School candidates may collect their results from their schools at 2.30pm on 10 February 2006. Private candidates will be informed of their results by post. Private candidates may also access their results through the Internet after 2.30pm on 10 February 2006, at the following website: http://www.seab.gov.sg
3 Students with ‘O’ level results will now have an additional option to apply for admission to the polytechnics under the Joint-Polytechnic Special Admissions Exercise (JPSAE). The JPSAE allows applicants to be assessed on broader criteria of merit, beyond the ‘O’ level results. Applicants can submit applications under both the Joint Admissions Exercise and the new JPSAE.
Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE)
4 The Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) is conducted annually by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to allow those who had sat for the Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level examinations to apply for admission to courses offered by junior colleges (JC), Millennia Institute (MI), polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).
5 MOE has improved the 2006 JAE Internet System, taking into account the lessons learnt from previous exercises, to ensure that the application process will be smoother than previous years’ exercises.
General Information
6 The following groups of applicants are eligible to participate in the JAE:
a. All Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents with valid GCE ‘O’ Level Examination results.
b. Foreign applicants studying in a government school, government-aided school or independent school in Singapore with valid 2005 GCE ‘O’ Level Examination results.
7 The JAE registration period is for 6 calendar days (including Sunday), starting from 3.00 pm on Friday, 10 February 2006 until 4.00 pm on Wednesday, 15 February 2006.
Registration Process
8 Applicants are to submit their application online through the JAE Internet System (JAE-IS). The JAE-IS is accessible through the JAE website at www.moe.gov.sg/esp/schadm/jae.
a. For eligible applicants who sat for the 2005 GCE ‘O’ Level Examination:
Applicants will receive ‘Form A’ on the day of the release of examination
results (i.e. 10 February 2006). Form A will list:
i. The applicant’s GCE ‘O’ Level Examination results;
ii. The courses which they are eligible to apply for under the JAE; and
iii. Their JAE-PIN (i.e. a personal password for the applicant to access the online internet registration system).
b. Applicants are strongly advised to complete the course application worksheet (provided in the JAE information booklet) before submitting the online application on the JAE-IS. Applicants who have completed their worksheet prior to logging on to the JAE-IS should be able to complete their applications on the JAE-IS in less than 15 minutes. Applicants are required to use their NRIC or FIN number, together with the JAE-PIN that is provided in their Form A, to access the JAE-IS. Unlike the 2005 JAE, a SingPass is no longer required
c. For Singapore Citizens/Permanent Residents who did not sit for the 2005 GCE ‘O’ Level Examination:
This group of applicants are required to use their NRIC and SingPass, to access the JAE-IS.
Alternatively, they may register their applications personally at MOE Customer Service Centre during the JAE registration period. To do this, applicants are required to bring along their original identity card, their GCE ‘O’ Level Examination certificate/results slip and their Secondary School report cards.
9 During the registration period for the JAE, all JCs, polytechnics, MI, ITE and secondary schools will also make available computing facilities for their students to make their applications online.
Application Fees
10 An application fee of $7 will be charged for the first application, and $10 for amendment of choice(s) to the submitted application. Only one amendment is allowed. Unlike last year, JAE applicants will NOT need to make their fee payment online during the JAE period. All JAE application fees will only be collected after the exercise, by the institution (i.e. JC, polytechnic, MI or ITE) that the applicant is eventually enrolled in.
Changes to Ensure Smoother JAE Experience
11 The Ministry has made several improvements to the JAE application process and JAE-IS to make 2006 JAE a smoother experience for the anticipated 40,000 applicants:
a. Application process made more convenient for applicants:
i. Applicants will be provided with personal JAE-PIN.
A personal JAE-PIN will be issued to eligible applicants who sat for the 2005 GCE ‘O’ Level Examination, shown in their Form A, as the primary means of access to the JAE-IS. Unlike the 2005 JAE, a SingPass is no longer required.
ii. Applicants do not need to make online fee payment.
Unlike the 2005 JAE, applicants will only need to pay the 2006 JAE application fees when they report to the institution they are eventually enrolled in. No online payment is required.
iii. Non-school applicants have 2 options for registration.
Applicants who did not sit for the 2005 GCE ‘O’ Level Examination are given two methods of application during the 2006 JAE. They can either access the JAE-IS using SingPass or come personally to MOE Customer Service Centre for assisted registration.
iv. Internet PCs made available for applicants’ use.
All JCs, MI, polytechnics, ITE and secondary schools will make available computing facilities for their students to make their applications.
b. JAE procedure and JAE-IS improved to speed up application process:
i.Increased system resources.
The computer resources available for the JAE-IS has been doubled to cater to the projected demand during the peak periods. The system can now take on 4,800 concurrent sessions. If the students' average usage time is 15 mins, the system would be able to handle about 19,000 transactions within an hour.
ii.Simplified the online application process.
The internet application process was simplified significantly, reducing the number of pages most applicants have to go through by half, from 10 pages to 5 pages.
iii.Provided applicants with their Course Eligibility.
Course eligibility information will now be provided in hard copy (Form A) to all students who sat for the GCE ‘O’ Level examination in 2005, instead of online, for ease of reference.
iv.Encouraged applicants to use the application worksheet.
Applicants are strongly advised to complete their application worksheet before they access the JAE-IS. A copy of the worksheet is provided in the JAE information booklet[1], which will be distributed together with Form A on the day of the results release to all students, who sat for the 2005 GCE ‘O’ Level Examination. This worksheet will help applicants to plan their choices before going online and ensure a smooth application process for all applicants.
Results of Application
12 The results of the JAE application are tentatively scheduled for release on3 March 2006 through the following modes:
a. JAE-IS, accessible through the JAE website at www.moe.gov.sg/esp/schadm/jae
b. MOE Hotline, at Tel: 6691-2131
Joint-Polytechnic Special Admissions Exercise (JPSAE)
13 The JPSAE[2] will be conducted, together with the JAE, from 10 February 2006 to 15 February 2006. A student can decide to apply concurrently to both the JPSAE and JAE. Successful applicants may be offered a course under the JAE and the same or another course under the JPSAE. Students who are offered courses under both JAE and JPSAE can decide to accept one of the two offers and exercise it during the enrolment period set by the polytechnics.
14 The JPSAE complements the existing JAE, by allowing polytechnics to consider applicants based on a broader measure of merits beyond performance in the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination results. Under the JPSAE, each polytechnic will be able to admit up to 5 per cent of their annual intake of students based on their special talents and aptitude. Each polytechnic will have the discretion to determine its modes of assessing applicants’ talents and achievements, including portfolios and interviews, among others. The polytechnics will set their own respective selection criteria to ensure that only applicants who are able to cope with the rigours of a diploma education are admitted. Details on the JPSAE is posted on the respective polytechnics’ websites.

i seriously hope i can get into the course i wan.i'm blogging super early today cuz i'm so excited about the results ting.i'm usually a very late blogger.and i blog at unearthly hours of 1am,2am and even 3am.although u see the tyme is usually 11.59pm.i put tt cuz of the date issue.hahahas.
